CHIEF Masembura of Bindura expressed anger over rampant cases of child rape under the area of his jurisdiction yesterday.
Chief Masembura, real name Talent Zvomuya, said it was disturbing that his area was fast developing a bad reputation for child sexual abuse.
The chief told H-Metro at the burial of Mbira guru, Ambuya Stella Chiweshe, that he is not happy with the conduct of men in his area of abusing girls.
“As I emulate the good works by Ambuya Stella Chiweshe, I am not pleased at all with men in my area.
“Masembura community has become common ground for police officers hunting for men that would have abused our girl children.
“May I take this opportunity to strongly warn my area that we don’t want any sexual perverts in our community,” said Chief Masembura.
The village was awash with rumours of one villager who reportedly raped his daughter, and Chief Masembura said this was not good for the image of his area.
The chief hailed Mbuya Chiweshe for raising his village’s profile through her mbira music prowess.
“She raised our community and nation’s profile internationally through her mbira playing talent.
“Vanasikana havaibvumidzwa kuita mabasa makuru akadai, asi nhasi asimudza hutekwatekwa, avaka musha wakanaka kukunda varume.
“The little time I got the opportunity to meet the late Ambuya Chiweshe, she taught me to uphold and value our culture and traditions,” Chief Masembura said.
