CCC Clarifies St Mary’s constituency double candidate saga, says Brighton Mazhindu is the legitimate candidate

By Chigwede Warumwa & Naison Chindete

Chitungwiza-The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change CCC has clarified that Mr Brighton Mazhindu is the legitimate party representative for the upcoming August harmonized general election.

This follows confusion which blighted the St Marys Constituency and other 20 constituencies. In St Marys lawyer, Mr Freddy Michael Masarirevhu filed his nomination papers under the Citizens Coalition for Change to represent the party in St Mary’s, defying the party which had settled for human rights activist Mr Brighton Mazhindu

However, CCC has moved to clarify the affected constituencies by naming and shaming those they accuse of fraudulently filing papers under the party name when they were not approved to do so.

Writing on Twitter, CCC spokesperson Fadzai Mahere said that, the legitimate Citizens Coalition for Change representative is Mr Mazhindu.

‘BRIGHTON MAZHINDU is the only legitimate  @CCCZimbabwe  candidate for St Mary’s Constituency. Anyone else purporting to stand is a fraud. Spread the word!’ – Fadzai Mahere CCC spokesperson

In another Twitter post, CCC deputy spokesperson Gift Siziba said that ‘For the Avoidance of doubt, Brighton Mazhindu is the legitimate Citizens Coalition for Change representative for St Marys’

The opposition, Citizens Coalition for Change faces a daunting task after over 20 constituencies have double candidates, with 15 of them being in Harare Province, three in Bulawayo, one in Mashonaland East and one in Mashonaland West.

In Harare Province, constituencies with double candidates from CCC are Chitungwiza North, Chitungwiza South, Churu, Harare South, Harare West, Hatcliffe, Hatfield, Hunyani, Zengeza East, St Mary’s, Sunningdale, Warren Park, Epworth South, Harare Central and Harare East.
