Police officers arrested for beating up ZACC investigators
By Staff Reporter
TWO Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers stationed at Sakubva in Mutare have been arrested for allegedly assaulting Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigators on duty.
Sergeant Mduduzi Makina (39) and Constable Elliot Gava (42) now face criminal charges of obstruction of justice and resisting a peace officer.
Makina and Gava appeared at Mutare Magistrate Court today.
The pair allegedly obstructed justice by manhandling and injuring ZACC investigators, who had arrested a police officer on allegations of bribery at a roadblock.
Circumstances are that on December 11, 2024, a ZACC investigations team was probing reports of bribery at a roadblock near Mutare Teachers College.
During the operation, ZACC investigators descended on the checkpoint and seized a declaration book as evidence but Makina and Gava manhandled ZACC officers and grabbed the roadblock declaration book.
