ZANU PF Wars rage on: Mnangagwa demotes Mpofu in ZANU PF politburo reshuffle

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reshuffled ZANU PF’s politburo, with Secretary General Obert Mpofu emerging as the biggest casualty after being reassigned to the less influential post of Secretary for Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The shake-up comes amid growing instability and factional fights in the ruling party ahead of its National People’s Conference scheduled for next month in Mutare.

Mpofu has been replaced by Jacob Mudenda as Secretary General, while Patrick Chinamasa takes over Mudenda’s previous portfolio. Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has been deployed as Secretary for Legal Affairs.

Announcing the changes, party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said the redeployments were effective immediately.

“This reorganisation underscores the Party’s enduring commitment to the policies, tenets and ethos of ZANU PF and the Permanent Zimbabwe Revolution in service to the people and the nation of Zimbabwe,” said Mutsvangwa.

The politburo, one of ZANU PF’s most powerful organs, has recently been under the spotlight following a dossier allegedly linked to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, which accused some officials of corruption. Mutsvangwa has since downplayed its credibility. Herald Zimbabwe
