The ruling Zanu PF is now distributing farming inputs to urban dwellers as it makes inroads to the urban electorate.
Over the years, Zanu PF has been losing parliamentary and council seats to the opposition but they aim to regain those seats.
Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said that his party was ready to romp to a resounding victory come 2023.
“While they accuse Zanu PF of rigging elections and engaging in political violence, as Zanu PF we are employing smart tactics to win the electorate. The urban dwellers have already witnessed a serious collapse of service delivery. Town councils have been run by the opposition since 2000 but what have they done to improve the lives of the people,”Mutsvangwa said.
But Harare City council Jacob Mafume said the government has failed because their policies are not people centred.
“We have seen that the ruling party which forms today’s government has been taking council properties. Most of the assets belonging to the city council have been taken by the government. This has eventually stifled efforts by the city council,”Mafume said.
“Parcelling out farming inputs to the urban people is also a sign that the government is ignoring the rule of law whereas the farming of some open space in the city is illegal. In a way, the government is encouraging people to farm in the urban areas.Mafume said.
Analysts say that the move by Zanu PF is a desperate move aimed at regaining the urban vote.
