A 10-year old Chiredzi girl was allegedly married off to a suspected Johane Marange member Never Muzovara, becoming the latest viral child marriage case.
In a viral image where the old Muzovara from Matedzi Village 7 poses with the little girl there is a congratulatory message from the former’s relative.
“Congrats khule makazviita zvekare (You have done it again) … My 10-year old gogo (My 10-year old grandmother),” said the relative.
Socialite Jackie Ngarande real name Jacqueline Tinovimba Ngarande made the exposé through her Facebook page.
“It really breaks my heart because child marriage is slowly being normalised in Zimbabwe. A 10 year old was married off to this old man sitting here,” she said.
“This man is called Never Muzovara from Johanne yekwaMarange Sect from Chiredzi Matedzi Village 7,”
“Tirikuenda kupi Senyika💔💔💔💔.”
Her followers were heartbroken by the report.
“It’s very sad. Children should go to school. I don’t know what should be done to end child marriage in Chikombedzi,” one follower said.
“My cousin from the same area was married when she was in Grade 7 to a man who already had two wives. We tried to get the man arrested but this was fruitless.”
Efforts to get hold of Muzovara were futile.
