Zimbabwe’s main opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa says people should patiently wait for nomination court day, 21 June, to know the party’s final election candidates. The party has today announced a long list, with up to 3 names per constituency.

In St Marys constituency three names were announced namely Brighton Mazhindu, Freddy Masarirevhu and Hillary Gwata

In Harare East, two names were announced: Allan Markham and Tendai Biti. This follows reports that Biti has been defeated during the “consensus candidate selection” process. In Bulawayo’s largest constituency, Cowdray Park, Thokozani Khupe is among the names announced.

Chamisa says the final candidates have already been chosen by local communities. Journalists asked him why he is not announcing the final list. Party insiders say the selection process has been tricky and could cause turbulence for the opposition if not handled with wisdom.

However, journalist cum activist Hopewell Chinono who for a long time has been a praise singer for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change until he parted ways with the opposition has said that, they (CCC) have gifted Zanu-PF by not having Tendai Biti in Parliament.

“The Zimbabwean opposition has removed from parliament the most effective corruption fighter in parliament in Zimbabwe’s post-colonial history, Tendai Biti.”

“That is what Joseph de Maistre meant when he said “….every nation gets the government it deserves.”

“The looters must be popping champagne in their mansions because CCC managed to do what even Kuda Tagwireyi tried and failed!

The best Finance Minister we have had in 3 decades is gone through a decision made by lining people up behind a candidate.
What a muppet show!”

Sources within CCC however alleges that, insinuations that Tendai Biti has been removed from Parliament are unfounded as the process is not yet complete.
