Ian Makone elected as Harare Mayor

HARARE — Ian Makone, the Harare West councillor for Ward 18, has been elected as the new Mayor of Harare for the next five years. He will lead the city’s affairs and oversee its development.

Makone was nominated by his fellow councillors from the CCC party, which holds the majority of seats in the Harare City Council. He defeated Temany Utete, the Zanu PF candidate, by a wide margin.

Kudzai Kadzombe, the councillor for Ward 41, was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Harare. She also belongs to the CCC party and was nominated by her colleagues.

She faced Susan Chuma, the Zanu PF Women’s Quota representative, in the deputy mayoral race.
