Thieves raids mining company, get away with Toyota Hilux
THIEVES raided the offices of a mining company in Highlands on Wednesday night last week and stole a Toyota Hilux single cab truck.
Police are on the lookout for the stolen grey Toyota Hilux single cab registration number AFY 0313.
Harare Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Julius Chakanza said; “On 22 February 2023, the complainant, Chunlin Weng (47) left the vehicle parked outside the garage at the company premises at around 2200 hours. Moments later, the caretaker, Davey Shereni (55) who stays at the place reportedly went to bed leaving everything intact. He, however, discovered that the car was missing the following morning at around 0600 hours when he was doing routine checks around the office premises. The car had been stolen.”
Shereni said the thieves smashed a window pane on one of the French doors at the offices to access the car keys and to take the electric gate remote control which they later used to open the gate on exiting.
Insp Chakanza said after the act, the thieves left the main yard gate wide open and glasses scattered all over the place.
He said the criminals are still at large and the Toyota truck valued at US$55 000 has not yet been recovered.
Insp Chakanza said investigations are underway and called on members of the public with any helpful information pertaining to the case to contact any nearest police station or call on Harare Operations number 0242 748836.
He also urged members of the public to consider increasing security on their vehicles as car hijackers were prowling.
